Gizilgishlag

Gizilgishlag was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the village of Govushug.

The village was inhabited by 85 Azerbaijanis in 1831 and 44 Azerbaijanis in 1897. The village was reduced to ruins as a result of the massacre committed by Armenian armed formations in 1905–1906. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “gizil” meaning “red” (for the colour of the soil) and “gishlag” meaning “a wintering place of cattle” in Azerbaijani.
