Gilijli was a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the gorge of Gilijlidere. The village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 52 in 1873, 68 in 1886, 117 in 1897, 117 in 1904, 128 in 1914 and 127 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. The village was abolished in 1920. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the Turkic ethnonym “Gilijli”.
