Gavurgala

Gavurgala was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Ashtarak district, and present-day Aragatsotn province. It was located to the northeast of the village of Nazirvan. The village was destroyed and its inhabitants were massacred by Armenian armed formations in 1905–1906. The first component of the toponym “gavur” is a name given to a wolf by common people.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “gavur” and “gala”.
