Garagadik

Garagadik was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gorus district, and currently in the Syunik province. It was located 27-28 km to the northeast of the centre of the Gorus district, in a rocky and forested area.

The village was inhabited by 151 Azerbaijanis in the late 19th century and 108 Azerbaijanis in the early 20th century. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed formations in 1918. Later, the village was abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “gara” meaning “big, high” and “gadik” meaning “a pass, a mountain saddle”.
