Gachag Gayasi is a mountain in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and currently in the Vayots Dzor province.
The village was called “Gachag Gayasi”, as it was inhabited by gachags – (note: gachag – a fugitive) a man fighting against the tyranny of the tsarist officials in Azerbaijan; an outlaw, a man who lived in the mountains, living outside the power and the law, leading a partisan way of life.
