Gabagtepe is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 61 km to the northwest of the town of Ashtarak, at a height of 1,380 m above sea level. According to the Treaties of Turkmenchay (1828) and Adrianople (1829), following the settlement of Armenians in the area, the Azerbaijanis living there moved to Türkiye.
The toponym was coined by combining the word “gabag” used to mean “front, anterior” and the word “tepe” used in the Azerbaijani language in the meaning of “a small mountain, hill”, and means “a village adjacent to the front hill”.
By decision of the Armenian parliament dated 4 July 2006, the village was renamed “Ddmasar”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
