Ertish was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the village of Goytul of the Keshishkend settlement and on the bank of the Arpachay. There are remains of an old fortress and cemetery to the south of the village. The name of the village was noted as “Ardish” in “The Iravan Province Review Book”.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 70 in 1831, 167 in 1873, 234 in 1886, 382 in 1897, 298 in 1904, 327in 1914, 403 in 1916 and 127 Azerbaijanis in 1919. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed formations in 1918. The village was settled by Armenians who were removed from Türkiye. The Azerbaijanis could return to their lands only after the establishment of Soviet power in present-day Armenia in 1924. Along with the Armenians, the village was inhabited by 94 Azerbaijanis in 1926 and 53 in 1931. The village was abolished in 1939. At present, it lies in ruins.
