Daylakhli

Daylakhli is a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and currently in the Vayots Dzor province. The provincial centre lies 22 km to the southeast of the town of Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor), and at a height of 1,630 m above sea level. It was mentioned as Daylagan in “The Iravan Province Review Book”, as “Daylakhli” on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The village was inhabited by 87 Azerbaijanis in 1873, 184 in 1886, 60 in 1897, 218 in 1904, 240 in 1914 and 209 Azerbaijani in 1916. In 1918 the village was exposed to the aggression of Armenian armed forces, its inhabitants were deported and Armenians were settled in the village. In 1926 only six Azerbaijanis lived there, and they were forced to desert the village in 1928–1929.

The toponym was formed on the basis of the name of the tribe “Daylakhli”.

The villahe was renamed “Arin” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 25 May 1978. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Vayots Dzor province.
