Damagirmaz was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Ellar (Kotayk, Abovyan) district, and present-day Kotayk province. It was located 12-14 km to the southeast of the settlement of Ellar (Abovyan). The name of the village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The village was inhabited by 254 Azerbaijanis in 1873, 353 in 1886, 380 in 1897, 387 in 1904, 474 in 1914 and 549 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. Later, the village was abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “dam” meaning “a house, a hut, a mud-hut” in Azerbaijani and the word “girmaz”.
