Chakhirli is a plateau in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Basarkechar (Vardenis) district, and present-day Gegharkunik province.

The toponym was formed on the basis of the ethnonym “Chakhirli” (Chakurlu). As it was a summer pasture place of the Chakhirli tribe, it was called Chakhirli plateau.
