Bughakar shrine was located in the territory of Bughakar village of Mehri (Megri) district of Zangezur mahal. The shrine was built in the Azerbaijani architectural style.

The village where the shrine was located got its name from the 9th century warrior Bugha Al-Kabir. The temple was named “Bughakar Shrine” according to the name of the village. The shrine was also popularly known as Sultan Sayyid Ahmed Mausoleum.

The village of Bughakar, inhabited by Azerbaijanis since ancient times, was abolished by the Armenians in 1930, and the population of the village was transferred to the village of Lehvaz, populated mainly by Armenians.

Despite this, the shrine continued to function as a sanctuary for the people of the surrounding Muslim villages.

After the mass deportation of Azerbaijanis from Western Azerbaijan in 1987, this monument was completely destroyed by Armenians.
