Bejayazli or Bekjigazli is a village in the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gamarli (Artashat) district, and currently in the Ararat province. It lies 500 m to the northeast of the Artashat town, at a height of 835 m above sea level. It was marked as “Bekjigazli” on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The name of the village was fixed as Bejazli. Historically, the village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis. Armenians were removed to the village from the Iranian areas of Khoy and Salmas in 1823–1830. Along with the Armenians, the village was also inhabited by 102 Azerbaijanis in 1831, 22 in 1873, 19 in 1886 and 10 Azerbaijanis in 1897. In 1905–1906 the Azerbaijanis were massacred or deported having been exposed to genocide committed by Armenian armed units. The surviving Azerbaijanis managed to return to the village in 1920–1924 following the establishment of Soviet power in the present-day Armenian territory. The village was inhabited by 15 Azerbaijanis in 1926, 11 Azerbaijanis in 1931. According to the decision of the USSR Council of Ministers “On the resettlement of collective farmers and other Azerbaijani population from the Armenian SSR to the Kur-Araz lowland of the Azerbaijan SSR” dated 23 December 1947, the Azerbaijanis were forced to move to Azerbaijan in 1948. Presently, only Armenians live there.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “bek” used in Turkic in the meaning of “firm”, “solid” and the Turkic ethnonym “qaz” (kas). The “-lı” in the final position of the toponym is a suffix denoting possession.

The village was renamed “Vostan” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 20 July 1945. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Ararat province.
