Aylanli is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 40 km to the northwest of the town of Ashtarak, at the southwestern foot of Mountain Alagoz, at a height of 1,730 m above sea level. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. Other names for the village are indicated as “Aynali”, “Aghlyanli”.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 196 in 1873, 236 in 1886, 308 in 1897, 215 in 1904, 228 in 1914, 315 in 1916, and 300 Azerbaijanis in 1918. In February 1918 the village was exposed to aggression by Armenian armed units and its inhabitants were completely driven out from their historical-ethnic territories. The Armenians removed from the Turkish province of Mush in 1916- 1918 were settled in the village. At present, Armenians live there.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the Turkic tribal name “Aylanli”.
The village was renamed “Davtashen” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 19 April 1950. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
