Avdibey is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Hamamli (Spitak) district, and currently in the Lori province. The provincial centre lies 37 km to the southwest of the town of Vanadzor, and at a height of 1,750 m above sea level.

The village was inhabited by seven Azerbaijanis in 1897. Armenians were removed from the Mush and Erzurum provinces and settled in the village. In the early 20th century the Azerbaijanis were deported from the village where Armenians live now.

The toponym was coined from the personal name “Avdıbəy”.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 4 May 1939, the village was renamed “Tsakhkashen” and further on 21 October 1967 it was renamed again “Tsakhkaber”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Lori province.
