Armash

Armash is a village in the Iravan uezd of the Iravan province, later in the former Vedi (Ararat) district, and currently in the Ararat province. The provincial centre lies 27 km to the southeast of the town of Gamarli (Artashat) and at a height of 830 m above sea level.

The village was originally inhabited by the Azerbaijanis who gradually left the village after Armenians had been settled in the region.

The toponym was formed on the basis of the word “armas” used in the meaning “solid, powerful” in Turkic.

According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Ararat province.
