Arazdeyen is a village in the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Vedi (Ararat) district, and currently in the Ararat province. The provincial centre lies 34 km southeast of the town of Gamarli (Artashat), on the bank of the Araz River, at a height of 810 m above sea level. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was originally inhabited by the Azerbaijanis, who gradually left it after Armenians had been settled in the region. Armenians were removed to the village in 1897. Along with the Armenians, Azerbaijanis also lived in the village. As the village is situated by the Araz River, it was called Arazdeyen.
The toponym was coined by combining the name of the river “Araz” and the participle “deyen” “touching/beating”.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 July 1968, the village was renamed “Yeraskh”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Ararat province.
