Ahmadli

Ahmadli was a village in Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. It was located on the bank of the Ayrija River.

The Azerbaijanis abandoned the village following the massacre committed during the Russo- Iranian war and the inhabitation of the area by Armenians in 1826–1828. In accordance with the official Census of 1897, the village was inhabited by 35 Azerbaijani families (141 people). As a result of the massacre carried out by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1905, the village was destroyed for the second time and consequently ruined.

The toponym was coined from the Seljuk Turkic ethnonym “Ahmadli”.
