Aghtala

Aghtala was a village in the territory of the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Dilijan and Karvansara (Ijevan) districts, and present-day Tavush province. The village was abolished in the late 1840s.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “agh” meaning “small, tiny” and “tala” meaning “an open space in a forest” in Old Turkic to denote “a small glade”.
