Aghtala

Aghtala was a village in the territory of the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Chambarak (Krasnoselsk) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province.

The village was inhabited by 26 Azerbaijanis in 1926. The village was abolished in 1930 by decision of the Armenian government.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “agh” meaning “small, tiny” and “tala” meaning “an open space in a forest” in Old Turkic.
