Aghkilsa is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Duzkend (Akhuryan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre lies 8 km to the northeast of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,880 m above sea level. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. It had been within the administrative territorial division of the Gumru (Leninakan) district until 1937.
The main and indigenous inhabitants of the village were Azerbaijanis. The Armenians were removed to the village from the Kars and Erzurum areas of Türkiye in 1820–1825. Twelve Azerbaijanis lived there in 1897. In the early 20th century (1905–1906) they were deported. At present, the village is inhabited by Armenians.
Due to the white church on the territory of the village, the settlement was called “Aghkilsa”.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 7 December 1945, the village was renamed “Krashen”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Sunik province.
