Aghjakend was a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located on the eastern side of Goydagh Mountain, near the Ardajli ravine.
The village was inhabited by Azerbaijanis only: 106 in 1873, 139 in 1886, 192 in 1897, 214 in 1904, 234 in 1914 and 258 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis, the original inhabitants of the village were displaced as a result of aggression by Armenian armed units in 1918. The village was abolished in 1920. At present, the village is in ruins.
The toponym was coined by combining the words “aghja” meaning “whitish, dry, unplowed soil” in Turkic and the geographical name “kend”.
