Adamkhan is a village in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre lies 26 km to the southeast of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo) and at a height of 2,000 m above sea level. Another name for the village was Atamkhan. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
It had been inhabited by Azerbaijanis until 1828. In 1828–1829 and 1877–1878 it was settled by the Armenians, who had been removed from the villages of Alashkirt province in Türkiye, and the Azerbaijanis were deported from the village.
The toponym was coined on the basis of a human name.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 July 1968, it was renamed “Vardadzor”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Gegharkunik province.
