Banovshapusht was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Mehri (Meghri) district, and present-day Syunik province. It was located 15-16 km to the north of Meghri. There lived 28 Azerbaijanis in the village in 1914. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted by Armenian armed formations in 1918. At present, the village is in ruins.

The toponym which means “the hill of violets” was coined by combining the herbal name “a violet” and the word “pushta” meaning “a small hill” in Persian.
