Abana was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located 14 km to the east of the village of Aghavnadzor. The village was noted in “The Review Book of the Iravan Province” compiled in 1728.

The village was inhabited by 25 Azerbaijanis in 1831. The village was abolished in the 1840s–1850s. At present, the village lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the ethnonym “Abant” (consonant “t” was omitted later) who came to Albania, the Caucasus, together with the Gargars before our era.
