Garadash

Garadash is a village in the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Karvansara (Ijevan) district, and currently in the Tavush province. The provincial centre lies 18 km to the north of the town of Karvansara, at a height of 800 m above sea level. The remnants of historical monuments dating back to the 17th-18th centuries, as well as the Oghuz cemetery related to the life of Azerbaijanis still remain in the village.

Following the settlement of Armenians in the area, the Azerbaijani population gradually left their lands.

The toponym was coined by combining the Azerbaijani words “gara” (black) denoting color and “dash”, which implies “a rock”.

The name of the village was literally translated into Armenian and changed to “Sevkar”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Tavush province.
