Kharaba Sarvanlar was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gamarli (Artashat) district, and present-day Ararat province.
The village was inhabited by 29 Azerbaijanis in 1831, 48 in 1873, 44 in 1886, 52 in 1897, 95 in 1908, 100 in 1914 and 70 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were massacred or deported from the village by the Armenian-Dashnak formations in 1918 and the Armenians removed from abroad were settled in the village. The village was inhabited by 36 Azerbaijanis in 1922, 32 in 1926 and 33 in 1931. In accordance with the decision of the USSR Council of Ministers “On the resettlement of collective farmers and other Azerbaijani population from the Armenian SSR to the Kur-Araz lowland of the Azerbaijan SSR” dated 23 December 1947, the Azerbaijani inhabitants of the village were deported to Azerbaijan.
The toponym was coined by combining the word “kharaba” meaning “destroyed, ruined” and the ethnonym “Sarvanlar” one of the Turkic Kangarli tribe. The village was renamed “Nor Gokhb”. At present, it is abolished.
