Jannatli is a village in the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gamarli (Artashat) district, and currently in the Ararat province. The provincial centre lies 16 km to the northeast of the town of Gamarli, on the bank of the Garni River, and at a height of 965 m above sea level. The village was referred to as “Jahadlu” in the works of Armenian authors.

The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 59 in 1831, 173 in 1873, 189 in 1886, 219 in 1897, 184 in 1904, 228 in 1914 and 260 Azerbaijanis in 1916. In 1918 the Azerbaijanis were deported having been exposed to genocide by the Armenian armed units. The Armenians removed from abroad were settled there. The village was inhabited by 78 Azerbaijanis in 1922, 100 in 1926 and 114 Azerbaijanis in 1931. By decision of the USSR Cabinet of Ministers, in 1948–1949 the Azerbaijani inhabitants of the village were forced to move from their historical land to Azerbaijan. At present, Armenians live there.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the multi-generational family.

The village was renamed “Zovashen” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 2 March 1940, and was again renamed “Lanjazat” by decision 21 October 1967. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Ararat province.
