Ikinji Gayakharaba was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Ellar (Kotayk, Abovyan) district, and present-day Kotayk province. Another name for the village was “Kafir galasi”.
The village was inhabited by 68 Azerbaijanis in 1897. The village was devastated as a result of the massacre committed by Armenian armed units in 1905–1906.
The toponym was coined by combining the words “gaya” meaning “a rock or a cliff” and “kharaba” meaning “a devastated, ruined place”. “Ikinji” is a distinctive feature.
