Tepedolek is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Duzkend (Akhuryan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre lies 5 km to the southeast of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,530 m above sea level. It is mentioned as “Tepedolik”, “Tepedelik” in the works of Armenian authors.
Until 1809 the inhabitans of the village had been Azerbaijanis. In 1810–1815 the Armenians from the Turkish provinces of Alashkirt and Erzurum were moved and settled in the village.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the words “tepe” used to mean “a rocky, mountainous place”, and “dolek” taken from the personal name “Done bilmez Dolek Uran” (Tenacious Dolek Uran) mentioned in “The Book of Dede Korkut”. The toponym means “A Hill which belongs to Dolek”. It is an anthropotoponym.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 7 December 1945, it was renamed “Arevik”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak province.
