Haji Nazar is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Duzkend (Akhuryan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre is located 9 km to the northeast of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,650 m above sea level.
The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis who gradually left it following the settlement of Armenians in the region. The name of the village is also marked as “Haji Nazar gulu” in Armenian and Russian sources. The Armenians were removed from the Turkish province of Mush and settled in the village in the 19th century.
The toponym is an anthropotoponym coined on the basis of the personal name “Haji Nazar”. It was founded by a person named Haji Nazar.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 January 1935, the village was renamed “Kamo”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of the Shirak province.
