Molla Badal is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gurdugulu (Hoktemberyan) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The provincial centre lies 11 km to the southeast of the town of Serdarabad (Hoktemberyan, Armavir), at a height of 845 m above sea level. It is marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

 The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 300 in 1873, 313 in 1886, 360 in 1897, 335 in 1904, 355 in 1914 and 252 Azerbaijanis in 1916 and 335 Azerbaijanis in early 1918. In 1918 the village was exposed to aggression by Armenian armed forces, and the residents were deported from their historical and ethnic lands. Armenians and Kurds were settled in the village. Currently, the village is inhabited only by Armenians.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the word “molla” (mullah) denoting a religious concept and the personal name “Badal”.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 4 April 1946, the village was renamed “Yekheknut”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Armavir province.
