Dedeli is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 49 km to the northeast of the town of Ashtarak, at the western foot of Alagoz Mountain and at a height of 1,900 m above sea level.
The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis. Being removed from Türkiye, Armenians were settled there after 1828.
The toponym was formed by adding the suffix “-li” denoting identity to the ethnonym “Dede” which is one of the clans of the Turkic Taka tribe. It means “a village resided in by the Dede tribe”. A branch of the Javanshir tribe was called “Dedeli”. This tribe would spend their winter in the Arasbar sanjak, by the Khan canal and their summer on the border of the Iravan province.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 12 November 1946, the village was renamed “Yekhnik”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
