Boghutlu is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 63 km to the west of the town of Ashtarak and at a height of 1,200 m above sea level. It was marked as “Bugiti” (N1109) in the almanac “The Collection of Statistic Data on the Population of the Transcaucasian Area” in Russian, as “Bughutlu” on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis, who gradually left it after Armenians had been settled in the region. Armenians were settled in the village having been removed from the Turkish province of Kars.

The toponym was coined by adding the suffix “-lu” to the word “bughut” used in Turkish in the meaning of “a mountain deer”.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 31 July 1950, the village was renamed “Arteni”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
