Bozburun was a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and present-day Aragatsotn province. It was located 5 km to the northwest of the village of Alagoz. The name of the village was also noted as “Bozbur”.
The village was inhabited by Muslim Kurds: 81 in 1873, 162 in 1897 and 100 in 1904. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed formations in 1918. The village was abolished in 1920.
The toponym was coined by combining the word “boz” meaning “without vegetation, woodless” in Azerbaijani and “burun” meaning “the point of a high land that juts out into a large body of water; a headland”, “a rocky promontory, a spur or a branch of a mountain, a cliff”. The toponym means “a village on a woodless, rocky promontory”.
