Iskandarabad was a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Uchkilsa (Echmiadzin, Vagharshapat) district, and present-day Armavir province.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 87 in 1886, 135 in 1897, 81 in 1904, 201 in 1914 and 555 Azerbaijanis in 1919. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled by Armenian armed units in 1918. After the establishment of Soviet power in present- day Armenia, the Azerbaijanis who survived managed to return to their ancestral lands. The village was inhabited by 38 Azerbaijanis in 1922. They also had to flee their historical and ethnic lands in 1923–1924, and the village was abolished in 1925. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined by combining the personal name “Iskandar” and the word “abad” to denote “a village built by Iskandar”.
