Golyand was a village in the territory of the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Chambarak (Krasnoselsk) district, and present-day Gegharkunik province and located at the foot of Murghuz Mountain.
The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis. After Armenians had been settled in the region, the inhabitants gradually abandoned the village. The remains of the village and cemetery are still there.
The toponym was coined by combining the words “gol” meaning “a natural water reservoir” and “yan” meaning in Turkic “a side, a part”, “a mountain slope”.
