Ashaghi Chambarak was a village in the territory of the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Chambarak (Krasnoselsk) district, and present-day Gegharkunik province. The name of the village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. The village was founded in the 19th century by migrants from the village of Chambarak.
The toponym was coined by combining the words “ashaghi” expressing a distinctive feature, “cham” meaning “a fur tree” in Azerbaijani and the Turkic ethnonym “Barag”. The village was merged with the present village of Chambarak and removed from the list of settlements.
