Godaklar is a village in the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, in the district of Krasnoselsk, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre is located 83 km to the northeast of the town of Gavar, at a height of 1,900 m above sea level. Until 1937 it had been within the administrative territorial division of the former Dilijan district. After the Krasnoselsk district was formed on 31 December 1937, it was excluded from the Dilijan district and integrated into the Krasnoselsk district.
Until 1918 it had been inhabited by Azerbaijanis. Armenians from Türkiye were settled there in 1919-1920.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the Turkic ethnonym “Godaklar”.
Following the settlement of Armenians in the area, the village was renamed “Martuni” in 1924. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of the Gegharkunik province.
