Bughdatepe was a village in the territory of the Goycha area of the historical Iravan Khanate, later in the former Basarkechar (Vardenis) district, and present-day Gegharkunik province. The name of the village was marked as “Bughdayitepe” in “The Iravan Province Review Book” compiled in the 18th century. Z.Gorgodian mentions the Bughatepe village among the names of the abolished villages of the Goycha area.
The toponym was coined by combining the herbal name “bughda” and “tepe” meaning “a hill, a low mountain”.
