Bazirkhana

Bazirkhana is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, in the former district of Aghin (Ani), and currently in the Shirak province. It lies 37 km to the south of the town of Gumru, by the Arpachay, by the Canal of Girkhbulag, and at a height of 1740 m above sea level.

The toponym was formed by adding the word “khana” to the word “bazir” – a plant oil, extracted from the seeds of flax grown in that area.

The village was renamed “Dzitankov” in 1924. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak province.
