Girkhdayirman is village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Abaran district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The village was integrated into the former Alagoz (Aragats) district in 1972. The provincial centre lies 57 km to the northwest of the town of Kavar (Gavar), adjacent to the Garabulag River, at the foot of Alagoz Mountain, at a height of 2150 m. It is marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
Following the settlement of Armenians in the territory of the Iravan Khanate according to the Treaty of Adrianople (1829), the Azerbaijanis living in the village moved to Türkiye.
Considering that the word “girkh” (forty) in the combination also means “small” in Turkic, one can conclude that Girkhdayirman implies “a small mill”.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 15 July 1946, the village was renamed “Hnaberd”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of Aragatsotn province.
