Korbulag is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Abaran district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The village was integrated into the former Alagoz (Aragats) district in 1972. The provincial centre lies 44 km to the northwest of the city of Ashtarak, at a height of 2135 m above sea level. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was originally inhabited by Azerbaijanis, and following the settlement of Armenians in the region, the population moved to Türkiye.
The toponym was coined by combining the word “kor” (blind) and the word “bulag” (a spring), which implies “a spring without basin, half-dried”. The word “kor” is used in the hydronym “Kor chay” to mean “a river that dries up in half without flowing into any basin”.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 25 January 1978, the village was renamed “Shenkani”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of Aragatsotn province.
