Garaltepe is a mountain in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Hamamli (Spitak) district, and currently in the Lori province. It is located in the village of Garal (Katnajur). It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The toponym was coined by combining the ethnonym “Garal”, “Gara El” (a big country) which reflects the name of the Turkic tribal name “Garalar” and the word “tepe” used in the sense of “a small mountain, hill”.
