Dashkend

Dashkend was a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province.

The village was inhabited by 62 Azerbaijanis in 1831. In the 1840s the Azerbaijanis were forced out from the village by Armenians and the village was abolished. At present, the village is in ruins.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “dash” meaning “a mountain, a rock” in Azerbaijani and “kend” meaning “a village, a settlement” in Turkish. The toponym means “a village or settlement in a mountainous or rocky place”.
