Dashalti

Dashalti was a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located 6-7 km to the south of the settlement of Pashali and on the bank of the Arpachay.

The village was inhabited by 32 Azerbaijanis in 1873, 37 in 1886, 73 in 1897, 28 in 1904, 30 in 1914 and 24 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. After the establishment of Soviet power in present-day Armenia, the Azerbaijanis who survived returned to their village. The village was inhabited by 15 Azerbaijanis in 1922. The Azerbaijanis were attacked and deported from the village for the second time by Armenian armed units in 1924–1925. The village was abolished in 1926. At present, it is in ruins.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “dash” meaning “a rock, a mountain” and the word “alt” with a identifying suffix.
