Askilum was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and present-day Syunik province. It was located 21 km to the southeast of Gafan and on the right bank of the Okhchu River. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. At present, it is ruined.
The toponym was coined from the ethnonym “Iskil/Eskil” belonging to the Turkic Bulgar ethnonym. It is an ethnotoponym.
