Okhtarbinasi

Okhtarbinasi was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and present-day Syunik province.

The village was inhabited by 77 Azerbaijanis in 1897. The village was destroyed as a result of the massacre committed by Armenian armed units in 1905–1906.

The toponym was coined by combining the words “okhtar/okhdar” meaning “a tribal or family confederation” and “bina” meaning “a place away from the village, where nomads migrate and settle with their animals” in Azerbaijani.
